When they moved into their Winston-Salem, N.C., townhouse, Rybe and Abby Henderson were eager to start enjoying the home’s spacious private courtyard – but first it needed some serious TLC. The existing patio was outdated, weathered and unattractive with unlevel pavers that created a concern for safety. They decided to create a ground-level deck extending directly from their back door with the goal of creating a space that felt like a natural extension of their home.

Right from the start, we knew we wanted to use Trex decking. We’ve always loved the quality of their boards and their commitment to sustainability.

The couple knew they wanted to use Trex composite decking for its durability, low-maintenance and long-lasting aesthetics. After reviewing the various options, they chose Trex Transcend® Lineage™ decking in the color Jasper. The deep mocha shade complements the exterior brick on the Henderson’s home and creates a seamless visual flow from the interior to the outdoor space.

The Hendersons also were attracted to the heat-mitigating technology* of the Lineage boards, which was a key factor for them. Because their beloved dog, Milo, loves napping outside, it was important that the new deck offered a safe and comfortable environment. Designed to reflect the sun's heat, Trex Lineage boards stay cooler* than many of the brand's other color options. Combined with the smooth, splinter-free surface of the Trex decking, it’s now hard to coax Milo back inside most days. And Abby, who was never a fan of going outside barefoot, says she loves the way the Lineage boards feel underfoot.

The Transcend Lineage boards feel luxurious, and the warmth of the Jasper color goes really well with our brick and feels like an extension of the floor inside our house.

Beyond the look and feel of the decking, the Hendersons appreciate that Lineage is sustainably made with up to 95% recycled and reclaimed materials. And, like all Trex decking, Lineage boards feature a proprietary, high-traffic formulation and ultra-durable integrated shell that resists stains, scratches and mold. The boards won’t rot, warp, crack or splinter like wood – and upkeep is hassle-free. No sanding, staining or painting is ever needed, and muddy paw prints wash off easily with just soap and water. Transcend Lineage decking is also backed by a 50-year Limited Residential and Fade & Stain Warranty, giving the Hendersons confidence and peace of mind that their deck will last for decades to come.

Our deck hasn’t just changed how we enjoy our outdoor space; it’s added real value to our home.

Rybe Henderson, Trex Homeowner

Replacing the old, dilapidated patio with the deck of their dreams has completely changed the way the Hendersons experience outdoor living. Rybe and Abby’s Trex transformation highlights how something as simple as decking can help create a space where moments become cherished memories.

*DISCLAIMER: Although Trex Transcend Lineage is designed to be cooler than most other composite decking products of a similar color, on a hot sunny day, it will get hot. On hot days, care should be taken to avoid extended contact between exposed skin and the deck surface, especially with young children and those with special needs.
